Served by email to Mr. K. Ajay Kumar, observer, Gujarat at kakumar@eci.gov.in today at 11.55 AM:
Dear Sir,
We, at AAP, were shocked to witness blatant violation of code of conduct and also of the democratic process by Shri Narender Modi, PM candidate of BJP today sometime back wherein after casting his vote at the polling booth he held a press conf within 100 meters of the booth. There not only he appealed people to vote for BJP but also he continuously carried the lotus- election symbol of BJP in his hands throughout the press conf. Modi Ji having been a man known for evading press conf chose to hold one on a polling day within 100 meters and openly appealing by words and gesture to vote for BJP is a gross violation of code of conduct. We watched the same on various news channels including AajTak.
While we will be formally sending you a physical copy of this complaint, please take cognizance of this act of Shri Modi at the earliest possible and seize his further movements at least for the day and also cancel his candidature from both the places viz. Varanasi and Vadodara. If technically it’s not feasible to block the telecast of such shows in the areas going for poll on that day, tv channels must be instructed not to air such shows at all.
Please note that on previous occasions also, Shri Modi has done one or the other thing to violate the code of conduct. On 07.04.2014, Shri Modi released the manifesto while polling was on in some parts of the country, on 24.04.2014 he did a rally while filing his nomination and continued to be telecasted by the media for over 4-5 hours.
While we reserve our right to file a detailed and exhaustive complaint comprising of all of his violations, we sincerely urge that you take immediate cognizance of the violations and act as per the applicable laws with no delay whatsoever.
Regards,
Somnath Bharti
